Artist Statement:
The photograph captures the weight of a deaf person navigating a world designed primarily for the hearing. It reveals the struggle to conform to societal expectations and the so-called "norm." The image portrays the daily challenges faced by the deaf community, where a lack of awareness and the pressure to please the hearing population persists.
Replacing the hearing aids symbolises the ongoing battle to bridge the communication gap and maintain a semblance of normalcy. Through this visual portrayal of reality, "Weight" sheds light on the complexities faced by deaf individuals and prompts viewers to reflect on their perceptions and assumptions about disability.
